DIY Watercolour Mugs
If you happen to have a couple of plain white mugs stashed away, bring them out of storage and turn them into an art piece with your old nail polishes!
These watercolour mugs are fun and easy to do. And they make the perfect, homemade gifts for friends and family!
For this project, you will need:
• Nail polishes
• Warm water
• A container that is deep enough to dip the mugs in (I used a disposable aluminium tray)
• Satay sticks (or toothpicks)
• Kitchen towel
Fill the container with warm water.
Drip a few drops of the nail polish into the water. You can use as many colours as you like, but you have to work fast as the nail polish will harden in the water.
You can use the toothpick to create some swirls in the water but it is fine to leave it as it is. It is up to you how you want to create the pattern.
The most fun part – dip your mug into the water! You can dip it in any way you like! Slanted, vertical, or horizontal, however you prefer.
TADA! Isn’t it gorgeous?
If you are not happy with the outcome, you can just wipe off the mug with a nail polish remover and start all over again.
Once you are done with the dipping, turn the mug upside down and let it dry on the kitchen towel for at least 4 hours. And you are done!
If some nail polish gets inside of the mug, you can remove it with nail polish remover once it is dry. Remember to wash the mug before you start using it!
Oh yes, these mugs can only be hand washed and are not dishwasher-safe. Even if you do not intend to use them for drinking, I think they look great as decorative holders.
