Out and About
Charming Toa Payoh
Toa Payoh is the grand dame of town, the first town that HDB developed way back in in the 1960s. Like its classic era, it remains ageless in spirit, still rock n’ rolling with the times.
The rejuvenation plans under the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) programme mark its next adventure which will see its youth renewed. The ROH plans will bring with it greater vibrancy while retaining the charm of Toa Payoh town.
Here is what you can look forward to if you live or work in Toa Payoh! 🙂
New Housing Developments
Looking for a home in Toa Payoh? Check out these new housing projects being planned.
The new housing developments in Caldecott will be in close proximity to the Caldecott MRT station and new park spaces. They are also within walking distance of existing facilities such as Toa Payoh West Market and Food Centre, parks and MacRitchie Reservoir.
• Toa Payoh East
Toa Payoh East will be another area where new housing developments have been planned. They will be near existing facilities such as the Toa Payoh South Community Centre, Polyclinic, Neighbourhood Centres and parks within the town.
Rejuvenated Town Centre
At the heart of every HDB town is the town centre, buzzing and full of activity. With the ROH plans, the Toa Payoh Town Centre is set to be even more vibrant as an integrated hub.
• Pedestrian Mall
The pedestrian mall, flanked by rows of shops on either side, is a distinctive feature of Toa Payoh. With the new plans, it will see more greenery, new seating areas and interaction spaces and shelters incorporated along selected stretches – this is good news for residents and heartland shoppers!
• Green Gateway
The existing plaza, located in front of COURTS, will be transformed into an urban oasis for residents. With lush landscaping, new seating areas and shelters, this space is for the community to come together and organise events and activities for fellow residents.
• Events Plaza
The events plaza in front of the Toa Payoh Public Library will be rejuvenated with enhanced amenities such as outdoor seating areas, more landscaping and possibly a water play feature for children. Residents can also socialise and engage in activities such as checkers in the nicely landscaped events plaza.
• Arts and Heritage Corner
There will also be a dedicated arts and heritage corner with a trellis walkway, new outdoor seating areas, as well as storyboards on the rich collection of public artworks within the town centre.
You can swing by the Toa Payoh ROH exhibition from now till 7 May for more information or share your feedback on these exciting plans!
