Hands On!

DIY Lantern for Hari Raya

This Hari Raya, I decided to be more ambitious and tried my hand at crafting decor items for my home. Among the few items I made, the modern Raya lantern was my favourite. I went one step further to design my own template, but the subsequent steps were really straightforward – and easily replicable too!

Materials:

  • Printed template (A4)
  • Thick paper
  • Penknife
  • Glue
  • Ruler
  • Twine/ ribbon
  • Hole Puncher

Step 1:

Psst…. you can download the template here for free! 🙂 Print it out on an A4 sheet of paper. Paste it on slightly thicker paper, so that the lantern can hold its shape.

Step 2:

Cut along the solid lines, and fold along the dotted lines.

If you did it right (I am sure you did!), you will end up with something like this:

I have marked out the areas to be glued, so just follow the guides, and glue away! Also, remember to punch 2 holes at the top (as indicated by the punch marks) before you start assembling the lantern.

Step 3:

The last step is to insert a ribbon, or twine, through the 2 holes at the top of your lantern. Find a pretty spot in your home, and hang it. To create that festive atmosphere, try making a few more! 🙂
