Getting neighbours together to bond over food? That is what the residents of Block 119B of Rivervale Road did for their own cookbook. As one of the contributors to the community cookbook, Jenny shares with us her home-style braised pork dish!

Time needed: 1 hour 30 minutes

Serves: 4 to 6 people

  1. Add the sugar to the frying pan and cook until it is caramelised.

  2. After it is caramelised, add the pork in to cook. Stir fry it.

  3. Add in the dark soya sauce and stir it well.

  4. Then add in the garlic.

  5. Add in the water after the pork is more or less cooked.

  6. Add in light soya sauce as well.

  7. Add in star anise and cinnamon sticks if you wish to.

  8. Cover the pot. Allow the stew to boil and cook under low heat for about an hour at least.

  9. Add in 1 to 2 cups of water (depending on your preference for saltiness) and allow the stew to continue to boil for about 10 minutes.

  10. Once meat is soft and tender, it is ready to be served!
