2017 may well and truly be upon us, but it is still not too late for resolutions. After all, new year, new beginnings, right? 🙂 If you are a home owner, or soon to be one, here are 5 #adulting goals to put on your list.
We can outsource almost anything these days, from weekday dinners to furniture assembly. While that is undoubtedly easier, it is also much less satisfying. This year, aim to complete a few mini home projects like braising meat or maintaining your wooden furniture. Unsure of where to start? The Internet has all the answers. Think about the skills you are picking up and the money you are saving. Being self-sufficient sure feels good!
2. Stay Organised
Here is a top tip to get your housing looking Pinterest-worthy: keep it tidy. But we all know how hard that can be, once the demands of daily life get in the way. Draw up a weekly schedule of chores and keep at it, to avoid the mad scramble of getting your house looking presentable before guests drop by. Also, stop impulse buying, purge regularly, and organise often. Marie Kondo will be proud.
3. Make New Friends
Go beyond the hasty “hello”, and ask your neighbours about their weekend, children, or their favourite cheap eats. Who knows, you might just find yourself a new coffee or cycling buddy. Whipping up some festive treats this Chinese New Year? We are sure your neighbours would love some too. 🙂
4. Trim Utility Bills
Spending less on boring utilities means having more for weekend brunch. Seek out water and energy efficient appliances, opt for LED or fluorescent bulbs, and halve your shower time to 5 minutes (did you know you can save 45 litres of water?). If you cannot do without your trusty air-conditioner, set it to an earth and wallet-friendly 25 degree Celsius. Go green and keep those bills lean—no drastic measures needed.
5. Maintain and Repair
Keep your home in good condition, and it will serve you well for a long time. This includes regular upkeep of your air-conditioner and twice yearly checks of your windows. Our Home Care Guide has useful information on such maintenance and repair matters. If you face an issue which you cannot solve yourself, do engage licensed repair contractors to get the problem fixed.
