At Home with Wei Yang and Abigail
A bright, cheery blue welcomes guests who step into Wei Yang’s and Abigail’s cosy abode, situated right next to Punggol Waterway.
Going for a modern theme did not stop this couple from introducing pops of colours and a touch of their personality to their new home. This balances out the neutrals chosen for most of the carpentry and furnishings very nicely.
A ‘sea of blue’ lends a calm presence to the living room
“We didn’t want to settle for a specific style so our home has a mix of different things,” shares Wei Yang. Besides the broad theme for their home, they took a cool approach to doing up their home. “This wall was kind of empty so we put up a painting and voila it just clicked!” said Abigail. “The wall next to the dining area looks a little empty so we might put something up there too.”
Their living room has a number of conversation starters like the brick wall, the large wall clock without frame, the swing and the ‘non-edible’ cushions.
Their decor items consist of a mixture of online and store-bought pieces and some lovingly gifted by their friends.
Play around with different styles of decor to find the right mix
Everything seems to blend in just so well and it goes to show that it does not matter if you decide not to have a specific theme for your home. Breaking away from the conventional turns up plenty of interesting nooks around the home.

They got their fun home decor ‘right’ indeed
Each room also has an individual ‘personality’ but there is always a fun, quirky element in the decor. For instance the cute decals and a pyramid of plushies in the study turn an otherwise functional room, to one with character.
These cute decals add a whimsical twist to the otherwise plain walls
The couple have also created a mini relaxation corner at their balcony complete with a small table and chairs. Perfect for an afternoon tea on a lazy Sunday – which they confess is a regular indulgence.

This ‘chillax’ couple kept to a budget of $35,000 on renovations. But the best part of their home decor is how it continues to evolve with them, as they add new pieces here and there.
