Day-tripping in Toa Payoh

It is almost the year end and there is only one thing on my mind: vacation! But this time I wanted to do something different, so I set out to explore HDB towns in Singapore instead (in reality, it is because of budget constraints). Want to know how I played tourist in thehood? Read on to find out.

Famed food haven

Like any true blue Singaporean, food tops my ‘to-do’ list when I travel. Toa Payoh West Market and Food Centre is really where you can find everything… like halal prawn noodles, Mentai Maki, and premium fro-yo.

The flavourful soup takes 3 hours to brew, and it totally lives up to the hype.

Donya is the place to go if you are craving for Shiok Maki, but on a tight budget. At $5.80, I felt that it was pretty reasonably priced for torched salmon, with avocado filling and generous topping of mentaiko

For desserts, I just had to make a turn at the corner to reach Frozen by a thousand blessings. It is not as well known as LlaoLlao, but their lychee flavoured fro-yo is super refreshing!

Tourist-y attractions

After stuffing our faces, my hunt for the hidden gems in Toa Payoh resumed. Not many know about the second dragon landmark in Toa Payoh… the dragon pillar!

There is also a dinosaur playground that looks like it came straight out of Jurassic World.

Nature spots

A trip is not complete without visiting a nature spot, right? Beside the interchange, there is a huge park that looks surprisingly photogenic! A random tower, oriental-looking bridges, patches of lalang – it really is quite charming in its own way.
