Be it a dinner party for friends or a simple everyday meal with your loved ones, your dining room is where loved ones gather to enjoy good food and great company. But dining rooms do not often get the attention they truly deserve, agree?

So read our nifty tips on crafting dining spaces that will get your guests drooling and salivating – and it will not be just over the food. 🙂

For Starters…

If you have yet to embark on designing your dream dining space, first consider how you would be using it. A room big enough for a table that seats 4 or 6 might be a standard choice, but feel free to maximise your space at home by thinking about your personal preferences.

If you enjoy hosting parties for family and friends often, you might require a bigger dining area. Furnish it with long dining benches that can seat more people around the table at a go!

Alternatively, you could opt for a more intimate setting such as a breakfast nook for 2. Or build yourself a bar around your kitchen that works great for casual counter dining and entertaining guests too. 🙂

The Main Dressing…

From modern to vintage, there are dozens of ways you can decorate your dining space.

Charmed by beautiful farmhouses and looking to bring the good ol’ country style into your HDB flat? Hit the sweet spot with floral wallpaper and rustic furniture. Serve and dine on handmade ceramics or vintage stoneware to complete the experience.

If you are a fan of Scandinavian interiors, then a contemporary dining space is probably what you are seeking to create. Nordic design might call for the simple, minimalist and functional, but boring it need not be!

While Scandinavian style usually calls for a muted colour palette, you can keep things interesting with the right accents. From eclectic pendant lamps to mismatched chairs, curate furnishings that offer a fresh take on Nordic styling.

Fancy the edgy industrial look you see in many modern cafes these days? Think exposed brick feature walls, metal stools and filament bulbs for lighting, to lend an industrial vibe to your dining space. It is also a nice touch to recycle or repurpose old items, such as using a tin can as a flower vase to dress up your dining table.

Plate Them Differently…

If you are a non-conformist, why not dream up an entirely different look for your dining room? Find out how to transform your dining area into your personal cafe by drawing inspiration from fellow HDB dwellers, Gerald and Nicole.

While it may be tempting to blend your dining room decor with the rest of your home, your dining area is actually a great spot for you to shake things up. Just like Wei Yang and Abigail, you can interweave elements from your favourite design aesthetics to create a distinctive look for every room or corner of your home, including your dining space!
