No one likes to receive unwanted guests at home, especially if they are about 100 times smaller than you and brown with 6 legs.
Most people panic when they come face-to-face with a cockroach and reach out for the nearest bug spray. But do you know that the particles from the spray may harm the human body. Read on to find out how you can keep those pesky critters out of sight the natural way. 🙂
Keep your home clean
This is the most basic way to make sure your house is free from cockroaches. Make sure that there are no dirt and leftover food particles lying around as those are what they love most. Do also remember to clear your trash regularly and do a thorough clean up, so that they do not a have the chance to come over for a visit.
The power of smell
Cockroaches hate a certain kind of smell, which makes it an easier job for you to keep them away! You can either use bay leaves or lavender oil. Because, … who does not want a roach-free home that smells amazing at the very same time?
Start by crushing up a few fresh or dried bay leaves and then sprinkle it around the house especially in the places you suspect they might be nestled at. Another way is to put a few drops of lavender oil in water and spritz it around your home, or, you could also use a sponge or cloth and wipe down your counters and the inside of your cabinets.
Cucumber and aluminium can
Unsuccessful at keeping the cockroaches at bay? Here is a cockroach trap that is cheap, simple and easy to make – all you need are fresh cucumber peels and an aluminium can. Rub on some Vaseline on the inside of the can and place the cucumber peels inside. The cucumber and aluminium will cause a chemical reaction, releasing a putrid smell. As the cockroaches get attracted to the cucumber, they will be trapped in the aluminium can!
If you hate the smell of bug sprays and the hassle of cleaning up (they can get a little sticky and tricky to clean), try using hairspray instead. Hairsprays are also less harmful to the body and can kill cockroaches almost instantly after you spray it directly onto them.
DIY cockroach spray
No hairspray? No problem. Make your very own cockroach spray. You can either mix a strong mouthwash or soap with warm water in a spray bottle and you are good to go. Cockroaches actually breathe through their skin, so by spraying this solution on them, you can be quite sure to get rid of them.
