More popularly known as the ‘border town’ to Malaysia, or the Northern Gateway to Singapore, Woodlands may be unfamiliar territory for those who do not frequent the area. But, as locals like me would know, it is a town with hidden gems and natural charm, such as the neighbourhood markets with their good eats and more, and the abundant greenery within the town. 🙂
With the recent announcement of the Remaking Our Heartland (ROH) plans for Woodlands, my hometown is about to become more attractive as it gets a makeover into the star destination of the North!
Town Plaza – new community space for activities and bonding
One improvement I am looking forward to is the new Town Plaza that will be built at Woodlands Central – my favourite hangout place with its shopping mall and MRT station. This spacious sheltered space will be a new spot for community activities and meeting up with friends.
There will be a new Town Plaza close to Woodlands MRT for residents to come together over community activities
Convenient and scenic access to Woodlands Waterfront
The Woodlands Waterfront, already a popular destination for sports and activities, is also set for a revamp. There will be a new rustic park, with trails and a nature promenade to make unwinding by the waterfront even more delightful!
A 1.9-kilometre-long linkway, to be called WoodsVista Gallery, will connect the Woodlands Waterfront to Woodlands MRT station. The new link, with its lush greenery, will come with dedicated cycling and pedestrian lanes. Imagine being able to walk, jog or cycle along the gallery, and take in scenic views of the town at the same time!
A new link will be developed near Woodlands MRT to provide a safe and scenic access from Woodlands MRT station to Woodlands Waterfront
New mega ‘playground’
Another recreational spot that will be getting a new lease of life is the Woodlands Town Garden in Marsiling. Once a popular location for wedding photoshoots, the garden has lost some of its shine over the years, though it’s still a great place for evening strolls and hearty chats by the picturesque lake. So the plan to upgrade and expand it into a ‘Discovery Playground’ is most welcome. With a new boardwalk, heritage corner and children’s playground planned for it, we’ll soon be able to discover anew the charm of this once-favourite leisure spot.
The Woodlands Town Garden will get a makeover as it is upgraded into a mega ‘Discovery playground’ with recreational options for all ages. It will feature a heritage corner and learning lane with storyboards to showcase the heritage of the town, as well a
Besides my personal favourites, the ROH plans also cover other significant improvements to make Woodlands a more vibrant place to live, work, learn and play. More details can be found here.
If you have time this weekend, do pop by the ROH exhibition, beside the Woodlands MRT, to check out the detailed plans and share your views! The exhibition ends on 30 April 2017.
