Coming home after a long day at work is blissful, until you spot a creepy crawly, tiny and brown in your room – a cockroach! The first thing you do is to reach out for the bug spray and use it!

Your job is done, but now your room reeks of bug spray and you have to breathe in that unpleasant smell. Do not fret as I will let you in on some tips on how to eliminate the smell and get rid of different pests at home. They are non-synthetic repellents which are not as damaging to us.

Cockroaches cannot tolerate fragrance – so why not use fabric softener! Since they breathe through their skin, it makes it easier to get rid of cockroaches by spraying and suffocating them with fabric softener. All you need to do is to mix a cup of fabric softener with half a cup of water. Pour this solution into another spray bottle, and voila, you have your very own natural insecticide spray!

Hair sprays also provide another good alternative – they are sticky, so when sprayed on cockroaches, it will glue their wings and seal their skin. This will prevent the cockroaches from escaping and result in them suffocating slowly. So remember, whenever you see a cockroach next time, make a grab for your favourite hair spray and spray away 🙂

We all know that to prevent mosquitoes from breeding, we need to make sure that there are no puddles of stagnant water anywhere in our homes. Here are some additional pointers that can help keep mosquitoes at bay.

You can use lavender oil to eliminate mosquitoes without relying on harmful pesticides. Besides giving your home a nice smell and creating a relaxed ambience, lavender oil is known to repel mosquitoes.

Another natural mosquito repellent is garlic. Rub a cut clove of garlic over your exposed skin – the smell of the garlic will be able to ward off mosquitoes!

Flies are a nuisance when it comes to meal times. Not only are they annoying, they are also harmful as they can spread germs. Here is one way to make sure you are able to enjoy your meal in peace.

Lemongrass oil has strong insect repellent properties and at the same time, it will add a refreshing aroma to your home. Why not use the lemongrass oil to make a fly repelling spray that will also work as a room freshener.

You will need:
– Lemongrass essential oil – 20 to 25 drops
– Hot water – about 1/2 cup

Keep the solution in a spray bottle and spray it in areas where you always see them. Trust me – it works like a charm!

And now, you are an expert in keeping your home free from pests and bugs! But, as with all repellents, synthetic or natural, keep them safely out of the reach of children.
